4 Places in San Diego to Avoid the Super Bowl

I’ll start by saying that if you’re reading this post, you are not alone in your thinking that the Super Bowl is overrated and – dare I say it – downright boring. While it may be hard to avoid the big game tomorrow, there are several places left in San Diego to escape the madness that is the Super Bowl. Here are a few ideas:

Visit a San Diego Museum as part of San Diego Museum Month, which means half-off admission to 45 museums in and around San Diego. The San Diego Museum of Art is actually completely free tomorrow, so why not stop by for a while and then grab dinner in Balboa Park?

Enjoy a food tasting tour in downtown La Jolla as part of Bite San Diego. Or if you don’t want to make the trek to La Jolla, Old Town has one too.

Alright bear with me for a second, but what about a Pub Crawl by Boat? Spend the day visiting some of San Diego’s oldest taverns on the water! If that’s not your thing, perhaps champagne on a boat is??

If you want some good Mexican food and a great happy hour, check out El Camino in Little Italy. It’s the only place I know of to eat amazing shrimp quesadillas in a dimly lit room with crazy 1970s and 80s dance shows playing on the wall. Please be aware that you’ll have a bit of the Vegas effect: you won’t know what time of day it is or how long you’ve spent there.

And I’ll leave you with one final pearl of wisdom: unless you want to see a few hundred brahs throwing back a few brews, under no circumstances should you step foot in the Gaslamp District on Super Bowl Sunday.
