The other day I stumbled upon this art installation by Berndnaut Smilde. First, be sure to check out this wonderful interview with the artist. In addition to the pure magic of the clouds, Smilde also chooses beautiful backdrops in which they are housed. One of my favorites (show below) takes place in an empty church with high ceilings, white walls and classic lancet windows. While the clouds dissipate quickly, Smilde’s photographs remain.
During the interview, Smilde comments about the natural travesty surrounding clouds:
“I’m really interested in work that kind of exist in between reality and representation in a way that it doesn’t really function in the end. So as for the clouds there just dead and building up at the same time they are falling apart”
